Regional Team Finals 2017

Having gained qualification at the recent Regional Qualifier 18 NTGA members descended on the Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham on 17-18 June along with over 1,000 competitors, hoping to secure a top 8 finish in their category to gain a place at this year’s NDP Finals. 

On Saturday the NDP Level 1 & 2 gymnasts kicked off proceedings with Sydney Wootton claiming a convincing victory in the Level 2 9-10 Girls, Sydney’s score of 54.10 was over 2 marks ahead of her nearest competitor. Lewis Maitland-Knibb finished in 5th place in the Level 2 13+ Boys scoring 49.50 and Megan Thomas scored 49.80 to finish 8th in the Level 2 11-12 Girls. In the Level 2 11-12 Boys Sam Wensley finished in 16th with 24.30.

At Level 1 Beth Waine just missed out on a top 8 finish as she scored 50.70 in the 9-10 Girls to finish in 9th. In the 11-12 Girls Emily Simpson finished in 10th place after scoring 49.90.

The action continued on Sunday as the NDP 4-6 gymnasts took to the arena with Georgia Roseblade providing a highlight as she jumped to top spot in the Level 5 11-12 Girls, winning the gold medal scoring 49.80. Sofia Rands scored 49.70 to claim a bronze medal in the Level 5 13-14 Girls, finishing one better than sister Esme Rands in the 15+ Girls, who just missed out on a podium finish in 4th with 51.40. Also in the 15+ Girls there was an 8th place finish for Izzy Odom as she scored 49.90.

At Level 4 Jacob Fleet was pipped to the post scoring 48.80 to secure a silver medal in the 11-12 Boys. Elsewhere Megan Loughney (49.00) finished 11th and Freya Portrey (47.40) came 19th in the 11-12 Girls and Charlotte Chambers (47.20) finished 18th with Molly Roberts-Crawford (46.20) in 19th in the 13+ Girls.

Alex Pitfield was just 0.1 away from a gold medal in the Level 6 13-14 Boys, his score of 49.70 was good enough for 2nd place and a silver medal. In the 15-16 Girls Lara Norman just fell short of a podium finish as she scored 48.10.
