British Championships 2016
NTGA gymnasts are celebrating today after a hugely successful 2016 British Championships at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on 2-3 July.
It was the young-guns who stole the show at the pinnacle event of the domestic season, with Ellie Vassel & Tyler Cole-Dyer crowned British Champions in their respective age groups.
There was a triple celebration for Tyler Cole-Dyer as the 11-year-old stormed to individual and synchronised titles, along with the much coveted Paul Luxon Award. In the 11-12 boys event Tyler took a five point lead into the final day after scoring 90.965 in qualifications and competing last in the final he held his nerve to come away as British Champion with a three round score of 138.37. He also teamed up with Cameron Bennett, from OLGA Poole, to win the 11-12 synchronised event and become a double British Champion.
NTGA proudly won both the under 15 and over 15 categories for the prestigious Paul Luxon Award which is presented to the gymnast with the highest two round execution score for all age groups, both male and female. Tyler Cole-Dyer secured the under 15 award and Andrew Stamp retained the award for the third consecutive year despite stepping up to the over 15 category to include senior gymnasts.

Competing in the youngest category Ellie Vassel was crowned 9-10 girls British Champion after a fine display over three rounds. Ellie was the overnight leader as her score of 83.695 placed her in 1st after qualifications and her score of 44.65 in the final round confirmed her title with a total score of 128.345. Emily Chapman missed out on a place in the final after scoring 74.535 to finish in 9th place, but teamed up with Ellie to win a bronze medal after a 3rd place finish in the 9-10 girls synchronised event.
Brodie Hove-Coleman continued her good run of form at British Championships scoring 137.170 over three rounds to win a 2nd place finish as she stepped up in age groups to the 13-14 girls event. Abigail Brown replicated her 2015 performance with a 3rd place finish after recording the highest final round score of 48.065 and a three round total of 136.745. Ciara McGrath was in 6th place after the qualifications and her total score of 131.440 saw her finish in 7th, an error for Charlotte Price in the second round placed her in 13th. Brodie and Ciara teamed up to secure a bronze medal in the 13-14 girls synchronised event, scoring 112.10.
In the 15-16 boys event Josh Jones performed consistently over three rounds to win a 3rd place finish, confirmed by his 48.870 score in the final and a three round total of 140.300. Despite a six point lead after qualifications an unfortunate error for Andrew Stamp in the final meant he had to settle for 6th place.
2015 British Champion Tahlia Feasey stepped up in age to the 15-16 girls event and just missed out on another podium finish, scoring 126.670 to gain a credible 4th place. In her maiden appearance at the British Championships Ocean Haynes scored 83.250 to reach the final of the 11-12 girls however an error in the final round placed her in 8th.
Huge congratulations to all our gymnasts and their coaches Harvey Smith, Dani Martin & Jack Blencowe. Thank you to all the families and spectators whose support was loud and proud across the whole weekend.
